Scary Liberal Policies

Posted in General, National, Politics tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 3:56 pm by xantica

You have all heard from the McCain Campaign and it’s surrogates about how Barack Obama and Joe Biden are the “most liberal in the Senate.. even moreso than the Socialist Senator!” as cited by a “non-conservative” publication, blah, blah blah.

You’ve probably also heard that the way the ranking worked was based on bogus standards, blah, blah, blah.

However, let’s say it wasn’t.  Let’s give it the benefit of the doubt.  So Obama is the #1 liberal Senator, Joe Biden is #3, fine.  That’s all well and good.  Now tell me why that should scare me.  What extreme, radical, crazy liberal agenda do they have?  Can you tell me what policy he has pushed through as a Senator that should worry me?  One point of view that I don’t agree with?  Because frankly, so far the only things I don’t agree with him on are when he votes with George Bush, such as on FISA.  Is he a crazy liberal because he voted against the war?  Because if that’s the case, bring on the crazy liberals!

Please, someone tell me why “liberal” is a bad word in relation to Barack Obama.

No matter your opinion on abortion, I think there is common ground in whether or not soomeone should lose their privacy.

Christmas Wish #1

That Americans will finally want a President who is smart as well as concerned, but official and intelligent.  Not someone they want to have a beer with or they feel is on their level.  And not someone that patronizes us.

Gov. Palin, we are not your special-needs child you throw around for political purposes.  Thanks.

Pre-VP Debate Thread

Posted in General, Local, National, Politics, Shows tagged , , , , , , , , at 11:02 pm by xantica

All this hype about Sarah Palin winning if she can just be presentable and not screw up to badly, and paying attention to how Biden greets her, and all that other stuff–I’m just not buying it.  Anytime the pundits talk this stuff up as much as they are everything turns out completely normally in respect to the extreme possibilities they throw out there.  Personally, I’ll just be looking to see that they both actually answer the questions asked and give me some information about what to expect from their admistration and policies.  Truth be told, I think Joe Biden will do wonderfully, as will Sarah Palin.  Honestly, I’m expecting her to just not answer the questions she is asked.  I truly hope she does though, I want to know what she has to say.

Feel free to treat this as an open-thread during the debate if you like.

UPDATE: Post debate, I would just like to add that I hate to post directly after a debate because I like to have my feelings and opinions sink in before talking about petty things that I won’t care about in a few days, but I just have to say that in the past week and moreso tonight I seriously cannot stand her voice when she gets all folksy and makes me feel like she’s talking down to me like I’m a child.

Those Darned Evil Earmarks!

Posted in Economy, Local, National, Politics tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 3:26 pm by xantica

2007 Earmarks map. What were earmarks used for in your neck of the woods? Bear DNA? Bridges to nowhere? Maybe it went to schools and hospitals.. YMCA’s and streetwork. Here’s what I found in my town and surrounding areas:

Lancaster, PA:
-$300,000 to Bright Side Opportunities Corporation, for the operation of a Community Technology Center for disadvantaged youth
-$250,000 to EDC Finance Corporation of Lancaster, Pennsylvania ; For: the demolition and remediation of the decommissioned Armstrong World Industries plant.
-$100,000 to Lancaster County Career and Technology Foundation for the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center’s Collision Repair Technology program

York, PA:
-$350,000 to Harrisburg Area Community College, for facilities and equipment for the Health Careers Center
-$100,000 to YMCA of York and York County for facilities and equipment

Coatesville, PA:
-$50,000 to Brandywine YMCA, for therapy/ rehabilitation facilities and equipment

Ephrata, PA:
-$250,000 to Brandywine YMCA, for therapy/ rehabilitation facilities and equipment

I don’t know about you, but if I pushed for any of those earmarks, or “pork” as it were, I would be damned proud to have John McCain make me famous with that old pen of his and have everyone know my name.

By the way, it’s my understanding that earmarks are requests for more money to be created out of thin air (like certain bailout proposals *ahem*), but that they are just appropriations of funds which are already budgeted. Your congresspeople just request that x amount of the budget for roadwork and bridges be sent to their town where it is needed to fix bridges before they collapse, instead of used on some bridge that will hardly be used. Doesn’t sound all that wasteful to me.

Joe Biden Reacts to John McCain

Posted in National, Politics tagged , , , , , at 9:17 pm by xantica

h/t Crooks and Liars for the following quote

“John McCain has confessed, and I quote – I want to make sure I get it right – he said, it’s easy for me to be in Washington and frankly be somewhat divorced from the day-to-day challenges people have. Well, he’s right. He’s right. If all you do is walk the halls of power, all you’ll hear is the wants of the powerful. Ladies and gentleman, I believe that’s why John McCain could say with a straight face as recently as this morning, and this is a quote, the fundamentals of the economy are strong. That’s what John said. He says that we’ve made great progress economically, in the Bush years. Ladies and gentlemen, I could walk from here to Lansing, and I wouldn’t run into a single person who thought our economy was doing well, unless I ran into John McCain.”

We are respectable negroes

Posted in General, National, Politics tagged , , , , , , at 12:24 am by xantica

We are respectable negroes.

Because of the hole in the space time continuum created by the Large Hadron Collider, the Niggaro Universe has overwritten the universe of We Are Respectable Negroes. Scientists are diligently working to correct this problem, and it should be rectified in the next few days. For now, because of the influence of this alternate reality things are changed. Our Barack Obama is now “Barack O’Bama,” a white Republican, Sarah Palin is a black Democrat, Joe Biden is Joe Biden but just a Republican, and John McCain is a maverick, Democratic populist. Zora, Gordon, and Chauncey have been replaced by their doppelgangers from the Niggaro Universe. They are the same, yet different. If you too have been changed by the disruption of the space time continuum do not feel obligated to resist. Instead, indulge your new self until this Crisis on Negro Earths is remedied

Quite funny.. a recommended read if you have some spare time!

DNC

Posted in National, Politics, Shows tagged , , , , , , , , at 9:50 pm by xantica

Sitting on my couch at the moment awaiting Obama’s acceptance speech, presumably in half an hour, on C-SPAN so that I can see the upcoming scheduled lineup.  When he’s on I will probably switch it to the DNC channel.

So far there have been some good speeches that I have seen from Bill Richardson, Al Gore, and Joe Biden (again) and those were of course the ones I was looking forward to seeing.  Other than that I haven’t been paying a lot of attention.  Stevie Wonder was playing, as well as will.i.am and others.  Also, when a group of vets came on stage to support Obama, Gen. Wesley Clark was onstage.  It was good to see him included, and he did get quite a bit of cheers just at the mention of his name.  Good for him.

The crowd is fired up, chanting, and excited.  It’s really impressive to see.  The RNC is going to be so boring lol lime jello all over again.  And yes, I hope so.
