Hate Crimes In Ohio
I’m disgusted. Awhile ago, maybe a month now, a DVD was sent to my house called “Obsession” which was quite clearly anti-muslim and designed to scare the living shit out of anyone who watched it. At the time, I had only dismissed it as something some sick person made for religious, political, or otherwise personal gain. I threw it out and thought nothing of it until I read this post from Monday about how it was sent out in many swing states. I am from Pennsylvania, so it makes sense that it was sent to me as well, but the post I just linked to on Crooks and Liars describes the hate crimes that are most likely related to this DVD in Dayton, Ohio. Some type of irritant was sprayed into a Mosque while Muslims, children and adults, attempted to worship.
If you believe this was the right thing to do, physically harm someone for their beliefs, then you don’t belong in the Land of the Free.

Joe Biden Reacts to John McCain
h/t Crooks and Liars for the following quote
“John McCain has confessed, and I quote – I want to make sure I get it right – he said, it’s easy for me to be in Washington and frankly be somewhat divorced from the day-to-day challenges people have. Well, he’s right. He’s right. If all you do is walk the halls of power, all you’ll hear is the wants of the powerful. Ladies and gentleman, I believe that’s why John McCain could say with a straight face as recently as this morning, and this is a quote, the fundamentals of the economy are strong. That’s what John said. He says that we’ve made great progress economically, in the Bush years. Ladies and gentlemen, I could walk from here to Lansing, and I wouldn’t run into a single person who thought our economy was doing well, unless I ran into John McCain.”

Virginia Voter Registration Report
Crooks and Liars » Virginia county issues “chilling” voter registration report.
According to this press release from this extremely important battleground state, students are being told that they risk losing their scholarship and tax dependency status if they register to vote in their college, as opposed to home, state. And surprise, it appears all these warnings are bogus and have one impact and one impact only: to suppress voter turnout among college-aged people

“We thought our very hearts would up and melt away.”
Well I wanted this post to be about the things I’m hearing about often yesterday/today/this week, but it turned into a bit of McCain bashing for yesterday/today/this week. Sorry! Things of substance to come later..
So recently there has been talk about McCain and the misunderstanding of how many houses he owns.. or remembers owning.. or has combined into one home.. and you know what, whatever. Yeah it’s lame that he’s so rich he can lose track of the number of homes he has, but hell, he basically just buys those houses to create more jobs for Americans! Yes, you’ve heard me. Someone has to clean those houses, dontcha know! And I’ve seen reported on a few blogs now (I think originally from Politico, I don’t recall now) that the household employees last year were paid over a quarter million dollars. So there you go. Helping the economy.
..or something.
In other news, recently in the news they’ve been talking about the Democratic platform and whatnot. This interesting article by Steve Benen over at Crooks and Liars informs me that McCain isn’t even going to be taking part in drafting the Republican platform. Now there’s a candidate to believe in!
Also making the rounds today is the opinion that McCain is using the POW excuse for every situation gone wrong. I agree, he’s overusing it. It’s getting to the point that it just loses its meaning once people hear it all the time for the dumbest reasons. If he continued to use it anytime it actually _applied_ to the argument, it would still be effective. Now.. everyone seems to be feeling “give me a break, I know already.” I know that’s how I feel. Sigh, he once had so much respect, and then he turned into a weird little poppet. Methinks he shouldn’t have run for president this year.
P.S. What the hell is up with the “Cone of Silence” crap from Saddleback. From what I understand, first Warren was surprised to know McCain showed up late, then he defended McCain not being on time, and said that Obama had an advantage because he knew a question ahead of time.. but he also said earlier that they _both_ had advance notice of what the questions could be. And on stage he made the joke about McCain being backstange in the silence thingamajig and McCain joked about it and good times were had. Come on. If he wasn’t really in a cone of silence why do we have to keep talking about it. Just say yeah we were late, but we did our best to stick to the intended structure of the event, and kept our eyes and ears closed off to the beginning of the event. People still wouldn’t believe him, but maybe it was an honest mistake and there’s nothing that can be done about it. What should have been done was a delay in the program, but that’s too much to ask.
Long post script, I know.
